Gotham is coming to Fox soon.

While news of casting and potential plot devices have been running rampant for a while now, news has officially come out that Fox will be ordering a Batman-universe series titled, simply, “Gotham.”

Fox has officially given a series order to “Gotham,” the WBTV-produced drama about a young James Gordon — the police official whom “Batman” fans know as an eventual ally to the Caped Crusader.

Ben McKenzie plays Gordon in the series, which previously had a series commitment at the network. The cast also includes Donal Logue, Jada Pinkett Smith, David Mazouz, Robin Lord Taylor, Camren Bicondova, Erin Richards, Sean Pertwee, Zabryna Guevara and Cory Michael Smith.

Not much is know right now about what the show will consist of, but the trailer clues us into the time period. Jim Gordon is a new detective in Gotham City and we catch a glimpse of a young Bruce Wayne, who meets Gordon for the first time after his parents are brutally murdered in front of him.

Warner Bros., for their part, has been emphasizing doing more with their DC franchises, and considering the successes of CW shows like “Smallville” and “Arrow,” and the upcoming spin-off based on The Flash, their television presence could grow significantly in the next few years. Fans of DC are also looking (some with skeptical eye) at the movie-side of the DC Universe, with development of the Man of Steel sequel set to include a myriad of DC characters, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Cyborg. It’s believed that Warner Bros. is pushing up their expected timeline for a Justice League movie to catch up with Marvel’s movie releases.
