Wednesday, May 21, was a big day for Batman and his legions of fans, as more information on his next video game and movie appearances were released to hoardes of eagerly-awaiting fans.
On the movie front, the official title of the new Batman/Superman movie was released not too long after the release of the first look at the Batmobile and also Ben Affleck as Batman. The title, as reported by Variety, will be “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice,” which may or may not be a reference to the fact that Hollywood’s worst kept secret is that this will be a forerunner to an eventual Justice League movie.
Warner Bros. has officially titled the Batman-Superman pic “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” with principal photography starting today in Detroit.
Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck star in the film with Zack Snyder directing. Pic also stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane returning from “Man of Steel,” Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, and Holly Hunter.
Film is written by Chris Terrio, from a screenplay by David S. Goyer. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing.
It is also interesting to note that Batman gets top billing, even though the movie was originally referred to as a sequel to “Man of Steel.”
On the video game front, the new game in the Arkham series, “Batman: Arkham Knight,” now has a gameplay trailer that is filled mostly with cutscenes and voiceovers along with Batman beating somebody before himself being beaten.
The new trailer hints at Scarecrow (real name Jonathan Crane) being the leading villain, threatening to turn Gotham into a “city of fear” while Batman is attacked by an armored foe with a stylized “A” on the chest plate, similar to the Arkham Asylum logo’s, and leading to speculation that the “Arkham Knight” is in fact this foe, not Batman.
The trailer also showed glimpses of Penguin, Two-Face, and Harley Quinn, who will be available via pre-order as a playable character.
